A Different Kind of ‘Go-Bag’
China acts swiftly when a positive case pops up in the mainland. Their first course of action is to isolate the location of the spread- this means locking down buildings, malls, schools and sometimes blocks of businesses. Once they’ve locked down the area, they begin testing every individual involved or located in the range of possible infection. With so many people to account for, these lockdowns are not brief. It can take many days to complete such a thorough search and processing of tests. Oftentimes people were kept inside their workplaces and schools for up to 72 hours. With no warning and no place to sleep, colleagues and staff would find themselves stuck in an impromptu sleepover.
Once news spread, a new kind of ‘Go Bag’ emerged. People were now prepping bags of essentials and leaving them at their place of work. In case a surprise lockdown occurred, they would have some things they need- a sleeping bag, toothbrush, a change of clothes- some basic comforts. When this happens, people are forced to sleep where they can, in office chairs or gym floors. They are dependent on the government to provide food and they must simply wait until they get the green light to go home.
Now, off to work you go. Oh, and don’t forget your ‘Go Bag’ !
